Class teacher – Mrs James-Davies

Classroom assistant – Mrs Fellows and Mrs Morris

We are so excited to welcome you to our wonderful class!

Our theme for this term is Responsibility and our question is “What responsibilities do we have towards Wales and the Welsh Language?

Here are some activities we have been busy completing over the last term.

Who Lives in the Animal Kingdom?

Last term, our learners had a fantastic time exploring our Animal Kingdom topic. The children were fully immersed in their learning, with a range of exciting experiences both in and out of the classroom.

  • young boy looking at som x-ray of animals

We began by developing our knowledge of animals, learning about different animal groups and their key features. The children explored how to classify animals, identifying what makes a mammal, reptile and more. Alongside this, they developed their research skills, gathering information to create their own animal fact files and learning to spot the difference between fact and opinion.

Our topic was brought to life through a number of special visitors. We had the opportunity to meet a bearded dragon, where the children asked thoughtful questions and learned about how reptiles are cared for.

  • A young boy touching a breaded dragon on his back
  • children with a bearded dragon

We also welcomed two Vetrinary Nurses , who shared their important role in looking after animals and helped us understand what animals need to survive and stay healthy.

A particularly memorable visit was from Chris and his guide dog, Rigsby. Chris showed us how Rigsby supports him in his daily life, and the children were fascinated to explore braille books and learn more about how guide dogs help people.

  • Chris reading braille with two pupils either side
  • Chris reading braille
  • Chris and his black Labrador

In preparation for our school trip, we were visited by Ren the Zookeeper, who taught us about different animals and the habitats they live in, helping us get ready for what we might see. We finished our topic with an exciting trip to the zoo, where the children saw a wide variety of animals up close. Highlights included learning more during the seal talk and watching the playful monkeys.

It was a wonderful term filled with curiosity, hands-on learning and memorable experiences that truly brought the Animal Kingdom to life.
